Watching the storm!

The children enjoyed this mornings spontaneous lesson today! This morning we were blessed with an incredible thunder storm in our local area. The children and I safely took cover under the sloping roof outside the classroom door and watched the lightning fork across the sky, right outside the school. We counted the number of seconds it took between the thunder and lightning, to determine the number of miles the storm was away, until it was directly above our classroom. We turned off the lights in class, laid down on the carpet and just absorbed the wonder around us. It is so important for children not to fear these storms, but be fascinated by them :)
