We start by reading the story to the children then each week we build upon this by carrying out different activities.
We have drawn our very own pictures of the caterpillar, retold the story using puppets and we have made story maps. We have been making clay caterpillars, egg box caterpillars and even painting the caterpillar. We have had a great time bringing this book to life.
This way of learning a book enables the children to retell the story using key vocabulary and repeating storytelling language. The children then become familiar with the words in the book and they can then retell the story themselves.
The more the children hear the same words from a story the more familiar they become with it.
