Maths is Fun! Shape and patterns...

This week in Nursery we have been looking at shape where we have been making different repeating patterns and also symmetrical patterns with shapes.

We made patterns using different colored bricks and Duplo and we made arrangements with 2D shapes. Using the notion that a butterfly's wings are symmetrical we all had a go at making our own patterns. For some it was a little tricky at first but we got the hang of it and learnt that symmetry means the pattern is the 'same' on the other side.

Our objectives this week were:

Notices simple shapes and patterns in pictures. (22-36)

Shows an interest in shape and space by playing with shapes and arrangements
(30-50)

Shows interest in shape by sustained construction activity or by talking about arrangements (30-50)

Use familiar objects and shapes to create and recreate patterns and build models (40-60)
