Towers of 10

Our children have been learning to make towers of 10. They started by counting out 10 cubes from a large box of cubes and then made a tower with said cubes. This made a tower of 10.

We have been learning about estimation.

The children were shown a group of items before being hidden. They then needed to write down the the number of things they thought were being hidden.

All children tried very hard at writing their numbers and developed their estimation skills.

Exploring the outside

The children have enjoyed exploring the outside and looking for mini beasts. They used magnifying glasses to enlarge the bugs that were found and were encouraged to lift things to look underneath.

Nature Nursery

In our Nature Nursery session this week we made chick nests using natural materials. The children all had a pot each and had to go hunting for the hidden bowls that were in the environmental garden. The bowls had different materials to help make our nests. Our nests consisted soil, leaves, sticks, straw, acorns and finally a chick.

The children loved looking for the bowls and making their nest for their very own chick.

What a lovely day we had.  We had a visit from the giant, found some golden eggs and coins, read lots of exciting stories and all looked amazing.

Taller or shorter

The nursery children have been starting to learn about tall and short. They were all given 2 minutes to make a tower and once the time was up they compared to see which one was the tallest and which one was the shortest.

Planting seeds

In nursery we have been reading the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and to link with this book the children have all planted a bean. We talked as a class about the parts of a plant and how we look after the them. The children then filled a pot with soil and planted their bean inside before having to water them.

Over the next few weeks we are going to watch the beans grow into beanstalks.
